  • The application for recruitment auditions of 2021/2022 singers of the Académie are now open.

    Registration deadline December 05, 2020.

Season 2021 - 2022

The aim of the Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris is to promote a new generation of artists and craftsmen.
It offers a training program that gives young singers on the threshold of their career the best possible opportunities to achieve professional success.

The aim of the Academy is to prepare these young artists for the conditions of their future profession by providing them with first-hand experience of the stage and by giving the public the chance to discover their work through concerts and operatic performances.
Above all, it is crucial for them to learn how to interpret a score, understand its intrinsic drama, acquire a sense of musical discipline and discover what it is to be fully committed to a musical and theatrical project.

The mastery of the French language is necessary to take advantage of the studies proposed by the Académie.

Program of activities for singers

Perfecting and promoting young singers’ talents is a fundamental objective of the Academy.

The educational program includes:

  • a structured approach to the various repertoires through workshops organized and overseen by recognized specialists in the field
  • role study
  • classes around the various works studied (pronunciation classes, diction and vocal control, theatre workshops, body dynamics)
  • possible participation in Paris Opera productions (secondary roles or understudies)
  • participation in concerts and productions with orchestral accompaniment

Conditions of residence at the Academy

The activities of the Academy will begin on the September the 1st 2021.
No fees will be levied.

Singers are enrolled for one season with the possibility of continuing for one additional season, by decision of the Opéra national de Paris.
Singers are engaged in “contrat de professionnalisation” and will be paid a monthly stipend of 1.870 euros (before taxes), from September 2021 up to and including June 2022.
The stipend imposes certain professional obligations with respect to the Opera which are outlined in a leaflet which will be sent to each candidate.

The auditions

Auditions will be held in the Studio Bastille (at the Paris Opera)
  • Eliminatories : from 4th to 7th of January 2021
  • Final round : January 9th 2021
The make-up of the jury will be established by the Director of the Academy. Auditions are not open to the public.

The arias must be memorized and candidates must bring the scores required for the accompanist. The Academy provides candidates with an accompanist. Candidates may be accompanied by their own personal pianist.

The candidate will choose and introduce the first aria.

The jury may listen to all or part of a second aria selected from the list prepared by the candidate.

Following this first round, the jury may choose to call again a candidate for a working session with a professor, in order to observe him/her in a learning situation.

The results of the qualifying phases will be made known on January the 8th. The candidates qualified for the final round will be summoned for January 9th.

The final results will be announced after jury deliberations from January 10th.

The selected candidates undertake to make themselves wholly available to the Opera for the entire duration of their contract unless they have written authorization to the contrary.
