Claudio Sgura

The Italian baritone Claudio Sgura is acclaimed as one of best performers of Verdi, Puccini and Verismo repertoires.
A native of Puglia, in 2006 he was an awardee at the prestigious competition “Voci Verdiane” in Busseto, and one year after he made his debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly under the baton of Myung Whun Chung. He was invited again at La Scala in 2011 as Alfio in of Cavalleria rusticana conducted by Daniel Harding and then in 2016 to perform in La fanciulla del West with Riccardo Chailly.
He is usual guest in the world leading theaters such as Opéra National de Paris (La fanciulla del West, La Gioconda), Royal Opera House Covent Garden (La fanciulla del West), Metropolitan in New York (Tosca), Wiener Staatsoper (Tosca), Staatsoper Hamburg (La fanciulla del West, Otello in a new production staged by Calixto Bieito), Sydney Opera House (Otello and Tosca), New National Theatre Tokyo (Aida), Maestranza in Sevilla (La bohème), ABAO Bilbao (Giovanna d’Arco), NCPA Beijing (Il trovatore), Savonlinna Festival (Tosca), Bregenz Festival (Claudio Franco Faccio's Amleto) and Norske Opera Oslo (Macbeth, Tosca), La Fenice di Venezia (La traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor), San Carlo di Napoli (Lucia di Lammermoor, Aida, Pagliacci and Luisa Miller), Teatro Regio di Parma (Il trovatore, I due Foscari).
Among his most recent successes, Otello at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich; Tosca at Opera di Roma, at Metropolitan New York, at New National Theater in Tokyo and at Royal Opera in Stockholm; La fanciulla del West at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
