FAQ Summer School
The Summer School is open to children from 10 to 19 years of age as of July 1st, 2024. However we also consider the application of students who are a few days younger or older.
The application is to be made via the online platform. No paper or email applications will be considered.
Please follow each step of the application process and do not forget any part of the supporting documentation. The €45 registration fees must be paid during the online registration. If you are not redirected to an online payment platform, you must try and register again. Please check that the payment went through. Incomplete or non-compliant applications will not be considered.
Applications are open until January 30th 2024 at 6pm (GMT+1). Please note that past this date the platform will close and there will be no possibility for late applications.
No; the Summer school and the auditions are two independent events. The Summer school is a specialized professional training and it is possible to be accepted even if one does not comply with the physical criteria.
It is possible to apply as many years as one wants; there are no limits, even if one has failed the selection process in the past years.
Yes, students from previous years must apply like all the other candidates.
The jury is composed of Mlle Elisabeth Platel, Director, and of several teachers of the Opera Ballet School
No, the jury will assign a level to the candidate. You can however choose to attend one week (Junior, Elémentaire, Moyen levels) or two (Elémentaire, Intermédiaire, Moyen, Avancé, Supérieur, Supérieur Pro).
It is strongly recommended to attend both weeks of the Summer School. However, the School reserves the right to accommodate special requests.
Applicants must be wearing dance clothing, at the barre or not, in the required positions (arabesque and a relevé in 1st position). Pictures must be of good quality and in no case can be blurred. Pease note that seflies are not allowed. This is also valid for the headshot.
The certificate must state that the child is covered in case of accident on him or caused by him, as well as in case of damaging to the equipment and/or the premises.
Please send, instead of the insurance certificate, a signed statement indicating that you will send the certificate after your child’s acceptance.
The medical certificate must be signed by a doctor, and must state that the child is fit to attend intensive ballet classes. It must have been signed on September 1st, 2022 the earliest.
This document must list the schools attended by the applicant and if she/he attends a recreational or a professional programme. It must also inform of the participations in other intensives programmes, competitions, noteworthy performances and masterclasses.
The document must not be too long (no longer than one page).
It is forbidden to bring medicines at the School, we also strongly advise against self-medication.
For preventive purposes, we provide a prescription model with the other documents to fill in and send back during final registration. It must be filled in by the students’ general practitioner. Without this prescription our nurse will not be in a position to give any medicine if needed.
Only the medicines that correspond to a specific treatment (asthma for example) are allowed and must be justified by a prescription.
The video must include the following exercises:
The sequence of steps is at the teacher’s discretion. Variations and performances are not accepted. Please do not add any introductory or end sections, and do not split the video into chapters. Please make sure the video is of good quality.
The video should not exceed 15 minutes and 2GB.
Students under 12 years of age are advised to record in December 2023. Applicants over 12 can send an earlier video but the recording must not be over 6 months old.
Scanned copies of written documents are authorised.
The documents in languages using other characters than Latin ones (for example, Japanese, Chinese, Russian or Hebrew) must be translated into French or English by a professional translator.
Please tick the corresponding box on the application form.
If you do not tick the box, but that you ask for a room later, you will be put on a waiting list.
Priority is given to students:
- Living outside the Parisian region
- Who are too young to go out on their own
- In order of receipt of applications
The 45€ of application fees must be paid on the application platform and are non-refundable.
The tuition fees must be sent after you have confirmed your child’s participation in case of admission. You will receive more information about payment options later in the year.
After the admission, a €300 deposit will be asked in March 2024 in order to book your child’s place. This deposit is included within the total amount of the Summer School fees. It is not to be added to the given fees. It is non-refundable.
Successful candidates may apply for a scholarship after they have confirmed their participation. Please note that we don’t offer full scholarships.
The list of the classes by level is available on the Opéra national de Paris website. This list is subject to change, the Paris Opera School reserves the right to amend the programme at any time. You will receive a complete schedule by level a few weeks before the beginning of the Summer school.
No, the Summer school and the auditions for the full-time course are two independent events. The School follows a very strict auditioning schedule without the possibility to organise additional or private auditions. You can find all the information about full-time auditions on the corresponding section.
Unfortunately, we cannot give any feedback about the audition.
Changes of level are exceptional and made upon decision of Elisabeth Platel on the first day of the Summer school. Please note that the Paris Opera School assessments might be very different from those of other schools.
