Alice Teyssier Flute

© Blaise Hayward

Biography

Born in Australia to French parents, flutist, soprano, and sound artist Alice Teyssier holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and the Strasbourg Conservatory, as well as a doctorate in the arts from the University of California, San Diego. A founding member of the International Contemporary Ensemble since 2014, she has performed as a soloist with ensembles ranging from the Talea Ensemble to the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, as well as at festivals including Mostly Mozart and those of Ojai, Huddersfield, and the Darmstadt Summer Courses.

A committed advocate of contemporary music, she has premiered hundreds of works and led residencies at Harvard, Stanford, Brown, and Oberlin. Deeply engaged with historical performance practice, she co-founded the Baroque ensemble La Perla Bizzarra in Freiburg.

Her creative projects often explore themes of transformation and life transitions, including Thresholds and the artist-mothers collective MATRICALIS, as well as a recent cantata on the life of 17th-century opera singer La Maupin. She is Associate Professor of Clinical Performance at New York University.
