Alexandre Dai Castaing, a French-Vietnamese composer born in Paris, studied classical piano in Paris, as well as contemporary music and jazz drumming in Geneva. His artistic approach is defined by multidisciplinarity, cultural respect, and the blending of genres. He has composed for a wide range of fields, including film, theater, advertising, video games, circus, animation, and television. Among his notable contributions, he composed orchestral music for François Hollande’s presidential campaign and scored awareness campaigns on autism and school bullying. However, it is in the field of dance where he particularly stands out.
Working with renowned choreographers, he has composed music for more than forty choreographic works. His recent projects include Romeo & Juliet (directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, August 2024), Peter Pan (commissioned by the National Taichung Theater in Taiwan, July 2024), Louboutin Show IV (Paris Fashion Week, September 2023), and Ukiyo-e (Grand Théâtre de Genève, a world premiere directed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, artistic director of the Geneva Ballet, November 2022). His musical universe draws inspiration from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Claude Debussy, and KODO. Alexandre also collaborates with the Japanese group KODO, with whom he had the honor of spending time on Sado Island. In June 2024, Greenpeace Japan invited him to design an artistic event aimed at raising awareness in Japan about excessive plastic use.
