The Paris Opera in French Guiana
Today, the various partnerships have enabled the Opera in French Guiana to become part of everyday life for the residents of Cayenne, Rémire-Montjoly, Matoury, Kourou, Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, Maripasoula, and Papaïchton. This season, the programme is expanding once again, now reaching Camopi.
In partnership with the Conservatory of Music, Dance and Theatre of French Guiana and other local cultural stakeholders, the Opera offers students in artistic training the opportunity to refine their skills with dancers from the Ballet, musicians from the Paris Opera Orchestra, and accomplished opera singers through workshops and master classes.
Each season, opera singers, Ballet artists, and musicians of the Paris Opera Orchestra perform at the Trois Fleuves theatre in Cayenne, sharing with Guianese audiences major works from the operatic and choreographic repertoire.
This season, the public will discover the recital Mélodies françaises et melodias brasileiras featuring artists-in-residence at the Academy on 25, 26, and 27 November 2025. On 4, 5, and 6 March 2026, Étoiles and First Soloists of the Paris Opera Ballet will present a classical dance performance.
The Academy continues to develop the OpérApprentis programme in partnership with Lycée Melkior-Garré in Cayenne, the Apprenticeship Training Centre of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of French Guiana in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, and Lycée Polyvalent Balata in Matoury.
Guianese artists visit the training centres to offer apprentices artistic practice workshops connected to their fields of study. The apprentices also discover the wide range of professions within the Paris Opera, helping them shape and enrich their professional projects.
Available for streaming on Paris Opera Play, this documentary series (5 episods) retraces the creation of this program, from the inaugural show in Cayenne to the dance workshops led by the Paris Opera artists in partnership with various collaborators in Cayenne, Kourou, and Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni.
