Ileana Montalbetti Soprano

Biography

Canadian-born Ileana Montalbetti was a prize-winner at the prestigious Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques in 2010 and 2012. She was also among the winners of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2012. She studied at the Chautauqua Institution (where she had the opportunity to perform the roles of Tatiana in Eugene Onegin and the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro), then at the Tanglewood Music Center (where she sang the role of the Voice from Heaven in Don Carlo under the direction of James Levine) and finally at the Opera Studio of the Canadian Opera Company of Toronto, where she sang the roles of Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Electra in Idomeneo, and the Voice of the Mother in The Tales of Hoffmann. During the 2012 / 2013 season, she made her debut performances at the Edmonton Opera (as Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann) and the Michigan Opera Theatre (as Leonora in Fidelio). The following season, she played Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes alongside Ben Heppner in Toronto (a role which earned her the Dora Mavor Moore Award). In2015, she made her French debut performing the role of Agathe in Der Freischütz at the Limoges Opera. This season, she is singing the soprano role in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Saskatoon Symphonic Orchestra.
