This year the Opéra Bastille celebrates its thirty years of existence. On July 13 1989, in the presence of some thirty heads of state, an exceptional event was held for the inauguration of the new theatre. Staged by Robert Wilson and conducted by Georges Prêtre, "The night before the day" was followed by a series of concerts from 13 to 20 July 1989 and the Opéra Bastille subsequently reopened on 17 March 1990 with Hector Berlioz's "Les Troyens". The birth of a new opera house in pictures.
