Company Building the Opera of tomorrow
30 years after its creation, the Bastille Opera will enter, in 2023, in a new stage of its history, expanding on to a new venue, concieved as the creation and innovation lab of the Paris Opera.
Reflecting the dynamism of the Paris Opera and its ambition to renew itself, this architectural project will give birth to a performance and rehearsal venue, as well as new costumes and decors workshops. An ambitious project aiming at the creation of a new cultural program for a new public, more affordable prices, and improved working conditions for the artists and artisans of the Opera.
This large-scale venture marks the conclusion of the original project by the architect Carlos Ott, and will reunite on the Bastille site the activities currently held at the Berthier Workshops (located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris). This 12.000m2 building will be constructed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects, an agency behind numerous international distinctive projects such as the Copenhagen Royal Opera or the Concert Hall Harpa in Reykjavik.
