Due to rehearsals in the Paris Opera’s two theatres, only the Palais Garnier will be open to the public on Saturday 19 September from 10 am to 5 pm.
Designed by the architect Charles Garnier in 1875, the Palais Garnier houses a theatre and a number of prestigious public areas (Grand Foyer, Members’ Rotunda, salons…).
The “Italian-style” theatre, the ceiling of which was painted by Marc Chagall in 1964, can accommodate 2,054 spectators. With close to 750,000 visitors each year, it is one of the most visited buildings in Paris. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1923.
