To dance as one breathes

An interview with Aurélie Dupont — By Milena Mc Closkey

By collaborating on the latest creation of the Paris Opera’s 3e Scène, Director of Dance Aurélie Dupont reminds us that she is still very much an artist and performer. The Etoile dancer shines in a film by the Japanese photographer, visual artist and architect Hiroshi Sugimoto. Filmed at the Odawara Foundation outside Tokyo—a space for creation designed by the artist himself—“Breathing” features Aurélie Dupont performing Martha Graham's solo Ekstasis. Sugimoto provides the perfect setting for the American choreographer’s composition. In the interview, Aurélie Dupont discusses her relationship with “the Graham technique”, her experiences of filming “Breathing” as well as her view of the 3e Scène.
