Living every moment with intensity

Willard White talks to us about From the House of the Dead

By Solène Souriau 01 December 2017

A singer of extraordinary charisma who has mastered the most demanding roles of the opera repertoire, Willard White has never ceased to consider each moment on stage as a new experience. In From the House of the Dead, he performs the role of Aleksandr Petrovich Goryantchikov, a political prisoner directly inspired by Dostoyevsky who himself was arrested in 1849 and remained in detention for four years. It is, he says, a complex and trying role both musically and theatrically.
