Soprano Valentina Naforniţă and Première Danseuse Marion Barbeau are sharing the title-role in Iolanta and The Nutcracker currently showing at the Palais Garnier. Tchaikovsky originally created the opera and the ballet as a diptych in 1892. Yet, they have always been played separately until they were staged together at the Opera de Paris in 2016 under Dmitri Tcherniakov's direction. The two artists tell us more about the parallels between their characters, two young women who lost their innocence as they fall in love.
