An institution which has inherited of several centuries of history, the Paris Opera is one of the world’s most renowned and major opera houses. In 2019, it celebrated its 350^th anniversary.

Led by Ching-Lien Wu since 2021, the Paris Opera Choruses are one of the largest ensembles of their kind in the operatic world, composed by 100 tenured artists - 45 women and 55 men, coming from 23 different European, but also American, Asian and African countries. These accomplished artists, both musicians and comedians, are used to work with stage directors, many of them who’ve revolutionized over the past decades the place of Chorus in the traditional way of staging productions of the repertoire.

In 1972, the meeting organized between the Paris Opera and the Opéra Comique has opened up a new period for the Paris Opera Choruses, marked by a “theatrical revolution” as wanted by Rolf Lieberman, but also by the emergence of prestigious conductors such as Karl Böhm, Sir Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Claudio Abbado or James Conlon.

Successively led by Chorus Masters Jean Laforge, Andrea Giorgi, Gunther Wagner, Denis Dubois, David Levi, Peter Burian, Patrick-Marie Aubert, José Luis Basso, the Paris Opera Choruses can take pride in the recording of major pieces, including Carmen with Herbert von Karajan or Faust with Georges Prêtre.

The Chorus artists keep on meeting the demanding expectations of a program constantly blending various repertoires. We could name, from recent seasons, Moses und Aron, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Samson and Delilah, Benvenuto Cellini, Parsifal, Boris Godunov, Les Huguenots, Don Carlos, Simon Boccanegra, The Trojans, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk or Prince Igor.
