Les Noces de Figaro

The Marriage of Figaro is one of the repertoire’s most iconic works. Brahms spoke of it as a “miracle” and the Countess’s lament remains one of the most heart-rending musical pages of all time.

La Khovantchina

To explore and examine Russian history. He drew inspiration for this opera from the Moscow uprising of 1682, the year in which Peter the Great was crowned tsar.

Body and Soul

Guided by a strange voice under the flickering light of a flush-fitting ceiling lamp, two men observe one another and then confront each other. This duo soon becomes a crowd, a swell, which comes alive to the rhythm of Chopin’s preludes.

Don Giovanni

For his second collaboration with Da Ponte, Mozart would mark the history of opera with his Don Giovanni: a rake who conquers and subjugates women with the cold brutality of a predator stalking its prey.

Manon

In 1731, when the abbé Prévost wrote l’Histoire du Chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut – which would serve as inspiration for Massenet’s Manon – he was presenting us with a portrait of an era.
