Born in 1983, South Korean baritone Hyun Sik Zee graduated from Seoul Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in 2010 with a degree in Christian music. He completed his studies at the National University of Arts, where he graduated in operatic vocal studies, Lied and oratorio (2013).
In 2014, he settled in France and joined the Paris Conservatory (he graduated as a concertist in 2016) and then the Hay-les-Roses Conservatory (Musical Studies, 2017).
Hyun Sik Zee has won numerous opera competitions, including the British & American Vocal Society Competition and the Concours français des Maîtres du chant. Since 2011, he has been performing in many roles (Escamillo in Carmen, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Germont in La Traviata...), from Los Angeles (Zipper and Walt Disney Concert Hall) to Seoul (Arts Centre).
As a soloist, his concert repertoire includes Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer (Ponychunghall, Seoul), Mendelssohn's Elias (Knua Hall, Seoul), Bach's Mass in B minor and Mozart's Coronation Mass (Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles).
Since 2017, Hyun Sik Zee has been a permanent member of the Paris Opera Chorus.
