Opera Duet

Author
Guillaume Delaperriere (director)

Opera Duet is a sound dialogue between Opera Garnier and Opera Bastille.

Guillaume Delaperriere suggests shifting our view of the world around us by observing it through the prism of sound. He invites the spectator to listen to images and look at sounds.

Using a documentary approach, his camera captures the reality of daily life at the two Operas throughout the course of a day. All of these images become audio material with which he orchestrates a type of visual music. Linear time disappears, becomes cyclical, and is cut into measures of four-four time.

The different corporate associations that work at the heart of the national Opera of Paris are the interpreters of this two-voice musical piece. Far away from each other in the mazes of both spaces in the heart of Paris, the composed music reveals a third space that unites all these moments of life.
