Recital by Tamar Iveri
A composer of intense sensitivity whose life was punctuated from adolescence onwards by tormented loves, Tchaikovsky wrote a melodious corpus of work of profoundly romantic inspiration.
He counts among the major influences of Rachmaninov – thirty years his junior – who, even though he lived through the era of Bartok and Schoenberg, would forever remain attached to post romanticism. He too was a stirring melodist and he endeavoured to promote the great poets of Russian literature – from Pushkin to Tolstoy – to contemporaries like Blok and Merezhkovsky… The Georgian soprano Tamar Iveri performs a Russian programme interspersed with melodies from her homeland.
