Winter had fallen on Schubert's soul when he composed Winterreise to the sombre and mesmerising poetry of Wilhelm Müller. Following a heart's endless wandering through a snow-clad landscape, the composer reaches depths of feeling hitherto unexplored. The Merry Widow and Capriccio have recently given audiences a chance to hear Bo Skovhus at the Paris Opera. Throughout a career that has seen him experience the torments of Hamlet and Wozzeck, the Danish baritone has also embraced the mysteries of the lied. Accompanied by the pianist Stefan Vladar, this is his first performance at the Amphithéâtre.
