The life of Guillaume Apollinaire is an echo of the Great War: the whole tragedy can be epitomized by the image of the poet with his head wound. The tenor Yann Beuron, master of French comedy at its purest, Stéphane Varupenne and Sophie Raynaud have put together this literary evening, a panorama of songs written to poems by Apollinaire: Francis Poulenc – of whom Beuron is an accomplished performer – is naturally present, but also Arthur Honegger… The artists have extended the programme to include several songs written to texts by poets contemporary with Apollinaire, writers exhibiting the same poetic quality: Rilke, with Samuel Barber's Mélodies passagères, and Paul Valéry with music by Frederico Mompou…
