A competitive admission process is used to fill vacancies and is generally held at the beginning of the year, with the final selection on the main stage of the Opéra Bastille.
Gifted with great musical, linguistic and stage ability, the performers recruited are able to blend into an exceptional community, meeting the requirements of every repertoire and the most subtle demands of the greatest conductors and directors.
Thanks to recruitment on an international scale, the Paris Opera Chorus includes an average 45% of foreign performers, from Europe, the Americas and Asia. The following countries are currently represented: Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Algeria, Argentina, Chile, Canada, the United States of America, China and Korea.
The average age is 45.
Last season, chorus members took part in 177 performances of 17 opera productions. 1009 rehearsals were required to prepare these works.
