To compose this barcarolle that opens Act IV, Jacques Offenbach reworked a passage from his opera Les Fées du Rhin : this is what brings a bewitching atmosphere to this melody sung by Giulietta and Nicklausse (Paris Opera – 2000). From 27 May until 3 June 2010 Béatrice Uria-Monzon will be performing the role of Giulietta and Ekaterina Gubanova that of Nicklausse on the stage of the Opera Bastille.
