New production
Giulio Cesare
Georg Friedrich Haendel
credits Harry Gruyaert
Opera in three acts (1724)
Music by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
Libretto by NICOLA FRANCESCO HAYM after GIACOMO FRANCESCO BUSSANI
Performed in Italian
Never was Handel's melodic genius more effulgent: the score contains some of his brightest jewels, like Cleopatra's arias, now seductive, now plaintive. Emmanuelle Haïm and Laurent Pelly conduct this new production, in which Natalie Dessay sings her first Cleopatra.
